Showcase Concert

The Coalition for Music Education holds an annual Music Monday Showcase Concert – a signature event meant to capture the spirit of Music Monday across the nation.  In 2011, the Showcase Concert was in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg got a special treat on Monday May 2nd when the Music Monday Showcase Concert rolled into town! Luke Doucet, who wrote ‘Tomorrow is Coming’, returned to his hometown to join many other special guests at Canopy Plaza at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg.

The Music Monday Showcase Concert began at 11.30 am (Central time) and wrapped up a little after 1pm. The Forks was alive with music from schoolchildren, professional musicians, community bands and lots more. At noon, just like all the other participants across the country, Winnipeg broke into a rousing rendition of ‘Tomorrow is Coming’ with scores of guitars, an elementary school choir and, of course, Luke playing his own song!

At The Forks there was music from: Luke Doucet • River East Collegiate Percussion Ensemble • Westwood Collegiate Jazz Band • Fort Richmond Collegiate Symphonic Winds • Mass Children’s Choir from Nordale, Hastings, H.S. Paul Schools and Nelson McIntyre Collegiate • Guitar Ensemble from J.H. Bruns, Dakota and Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, Victor Mager and H.S. Paul Schools, College Beliveau and the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts • Air Command Band Brass Quintet from 17 Wing Winnipeg.
