More than 500 local students, along with the NAC Orchestra Brass Quintet, celebrated music education with a special 20-minute Music Monday performance Monday at City Hall. Cape Breton Post – ‘Music Monday Strikes the Right Note’

Cape Breton students led the country in song as music education was celebrated across Canada on Monday.

As the host site for national Music Monday celebrations, approximately 1,100 island students came together at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre for a mass performance of the song “Tomorrow is Coming,” written especially for the event by award-winning artist Luke Doucet.

On Music Monday,students and teachers take their music programs outdoors and into their communities to perform the same song on the same day, uniting the entire country in song.

Over 1,100 students from more than 20 Cape Breton schools marched through the rain to celebrate Music Monday.

The crowd walked to the Membertou Convention Centre to sing and hear a performance of Coal Town Road by the Barra MacNeils.

Music Monday is celebrated across Canada on the first Monday of May each year. Students across the country learn and then sing the same song, at the same time. This year’s theme song was Tomorrow is Coming by Luke Doucet.

Every year, the Coalition for Music Education calls out to Canadians to participate in Music Monday, the first Monday of May, to celebrate and demonstrate their commitment to music education in the lives of young people and communities.

It is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of music education. This year, hundreds of thou-sands of students across Canada will unite in song today for the seventh annual nationwide Music Monday celebration.
