Hosted by Newfoundland and Labrador, with a nation-wide sing-a-long led by Vancouver BC, and music makers celebrating across Canada together at the same time
Let’s Fill the Canadian Skies with Music!
For the past nine years, the Coalition has brought together millions of voices to celebrate the importance for all young people to learn music, especially in their schools.
For Music Monday’s 10th anniversary, we will connect special celebrations representing regions across Canada – performing live in a nation-wide Showcase Webcast. Plans are in the works for special celebrations in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Charlottetown, Halifax and St. John’s. More will follow!
Using state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology provided by the Department of Education of Newfoundland and Labrador, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), the Showcase Webcast will sequentially open windows onto featured performances from special celebrations in cities across our country. Each performance will include school music groups, youth leaders, local artists and prominent Canadians. The Showcase Webcast will be streamed live to the Internet – accessible to millions of young music makers and music lovers of all ages on computers, interactive whiteboards, tablets and smart phones.
At 12:50 (Eastern Standard Time), Maestro Bramwell Tovey, Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, will step in front of the webcast camera at TELUS World of Science to lead the country in a synchronous performance of the official Music Monday song – I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing). Chris Hadfield will join us again this year – from Earth!
